Trails and Trees
Before Spring and Summer hiking can begin, there's trail building and maintenance to be done... The highlight of the work is the 'Arbor Day' (Tree Day) work day. The 'Chocolapolis' festival hike is also featured in April, however the date of the hike is somewhat flexible due to the weather of Pinnacles National Park. The "real" chocolate holiday of Flanders, the 'Chocolate Festival of Brugge', occurs in May.
'Arbor Day Trail Project' 2012
This and the following pictures are from two trails that were upgraded in 2012 and 2013. The 2012 project was to open a path through an "impassable" ravine int the Las Trampas watershed in the East Bay. The 2013 project was to refurbish an old logging road that provides access to one of the Bay Area's premier peaks.
In Transit- due to unstable ground on both sides of the gully where the bridge was to be built, a regular style of bridge wasn't feasible
Up and Away- access to the construction site was via a footpath, so a pair of dollies were built to transport the pipe.
High Point
Pending Installation. The dollies have been removed, and the pipe is ready to be lowered into place.
Nearly complete- Excess dirt was stored between the side-walls before the top planks were added, so no dirt needed to be dumped into the watershed.
Completed Bridge
'Falconberg' (Falcon's Mountain) hike in 'Little Basin'- "Arbor Day 2013' project.
