'Sideways Dutch' Country

Page Under Construction-  Will overview how speaking Flemish can enhance the "California Experience".
Flemish can be described as 'Sideways Dutch', and Coastal Highway 1 can be described as the 'Sideways Highway' of California, from the novel Rex Pickett'.  Calidocious Inc. believe the two 'Sideways' concepts fit each other well.
Although the novel 'Sideways' is about Highway 1 South of San Luis, and 'Sideways Dutch' Country is based on Highway 1 North of Big Sur, the book fits Northern California well.

California Dreamin'
-Mission Trail-
The target areas for promoting Flemish are the schools, universities, and communities along Highways 1 and 101, from Carmel in the South, to Napa/Sonoma in the North.
These communities are overlays of the Spanish Mission communities along El Camino Real in the 1600 to 1800s. El Camino Real, or ' The Royal Road', was the main highway of the Old Spanish Colony of California.
Highway 1, much like El Camino Real, was eventually largely replaced by another bigger highway, Hwy 101.

The 'Sideways' Highway- Named both 1 and 101
Another reason for calling Highways 1/101 the 'Sideways Road' is that it is perpendicular to the great East-West 'Mother Road' of the United States- Route 66.

'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance'- Side... Ways
'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance' is a classic book by Robert Pirsig about learning how to live (and how to maintain motorcycles).  The ultimate leg of the journey in the book is Highway 1.

Borne Sideways- Floating Massages at Esalen
Additional leitmotifs of the 'Sideways' Highway include the ever nearby Pacific Ocean, coastal mountains, vineyards, Redwood and Eucalyptus trees, California poppies, and fog.

'Sideways Dutch' Country is unique because it is both mellow and invigorating at the same time.

Brussels Sprouts (or "Brussel Sprouts" as they are usually called in California) thive in the fog-rich coastal plains around Monterey .  98% of U.S. production comes from this area, and only Holland produces more. Brussel sprouts have a delicate, complex flavor, yet are hardy enough to tolerate frosts.  They make an excellent compliment to pidgeon and red Burgundian wine.

'Far Side' Ways- Home of 'Boontling' English

One of the most interesting sideways attractions of California is the made-up "Boontling" dialect of Anderson Valley.  Around 1900, the people of the valley began to create a new dialect by substituting words for English words.

A "telephone", for example, became a "Bucky Walter". "Bahl Hornin" meant "Cheers" (good drinking).  Unfortunately, Boontling has now pretty much "Piked for the Dusties" (died).

The photo is of the "French Laundry".  The "French Laundry" has three Michelin Stars and is often rated as one of the best restaurant in the Americas.
Yountville is particularly amazing because it's restaurants have a total of 6 Michelin stars, and only 2,200 inhabitants!  This is one of the highest percentages in the world!
